Hello All,

Have any of you experienced issues using the helix tool in 2006. I just tried to use it today and it will crash my system every time. It does not even give me the option to create a helix before it dies. This also happens on two other user's systems. They all have the same graphics card and current video driver that solidworks reccomends. I have been on the phone with our VAR for the past hour trying all kinds of things including but not limited to: running in safe mode, changing the regisrty to make it think it is a new install, and using a out-of-the-box part template. All of these had the same result. My VAR even sent me a file that he applied the helix too and when I opened it and tried to edit the helix feature it died on me again. It did not even let me see the pop-up dialog for the helix feature. If any of you have experienced this, How did you reslove it? I'm almost to the point of a re-install but want to try other things if possible.

P.S. All machines were loaded with the 2006 Disks and I did a clean install on each machine before installing.

Best Regards,
Jon

Try running the Modify anyway. I had 2 customers complaining of this and that fixed it for them.

I assume the vide driver is a certified one and when you installed you uninstalled the other one first?

I will try the modify option. Is there anything in the modify set-up I should be aware of? Also I never did un-install the video driver before installing the new one. I did not think I needed to do that. How do I go about un-installing a video driver?

I tried the modify option and it did not fix anything, it still crashes my sytem just like before. I'm going to try a repair instead. I will post the outcome.

1) Add\remove programs
2) Find driver and Remove
3) Reboot
4) Install new driver
5) Reboot
6) test problem again.

Repair probably won't fix anything the Modify did. Because a repair goes out and tries to find problems with files and repairs them. A Modify will replace the file whether it needs it or not.

Okay this completely baffle's me. I just did a clean install of Solidworks and also have the shared files on my local(typically these are on the network). I tried sketching a circle and Inert-Curves- Helix and it still freezes and crashes my system. I even used the solidworks default template and settings right out-of-the-box.

We have three other user's here who have the same exact system that I do with the same graphics cards, hard drive, monitor, etc. It works fine on one computer without any issues, the other two experience the same issue I have. I have not done anything to my system that should invoke this error. Maybe I have bad disks or something. Anyone have any other ideas?

The choices are slim. I think I have tried just about everything, except maybe buying a whole new system. I really don't want to go there. There has to be a better way. My VAR is talking with Solidworks Corp. as I am typing this so maybe they will have a fix.

Jon

Okay my VAR got back to me and here is the fix for the Helix tool:

First close all solidworks applications.

Next go to the Start menu - Run..

type in cmd (this will get you to the command prompt)

next type in regsvr32 msflxgrd.ocx (might be best to copy and paste this in)

you should get a dialog saying that the above file was successful.

now when you use the helix tool it works!!!

What this has done was installed a particular file that the helix and flex feature need to generate the data needed.

Sweet... I'm glad to here this...

SW06 has been bad this time when it comes to registering *.dll. That's the only thing I can truly remember as being bad wit SW06.

Thanks for the update Jon!
