HART to microprocessor interfacing

Hi, I need to interface an off the shelf HART output temperature transmitter directly into the serial port on a Hitachi H8S microprocessor.
I see that HART modem Ics are readily available but other than that I'm not sure what hardware I need. I would assume I also need to obtain the Hart protocol, is this readily available? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
