H Pile Commercial Splicer Sizes

The contractor was to splice and drive H12x53 piles. The contractor opted to use a commercial splicer. The splicers that were used were HP-30000 but for what appears to be a H12x74 section. I'm assuming this is okay but not 100% sure what the difference between the two splice plates would be. Any input/experience? Thanks.

The commercial splice the contractor selected is exactly what is needed for HP 12x53. These splice plates fit between the flanges and adjacent to the web. As the size of the 12 HP increases, the flanges (and web) get thicker so that the depth (d) increases. For all 12 HP sizes the clear space between the flanges is the same (a nominal 10.91"), so one size splice plates fits all 12 HP. The same logic applies to other sizes of HP, too, e.g. 10 HP and 14 HP.

I have not used commercial splice plates, but have used commercial HP pile points. They are better and easier to install than self-fabricated ones. I expect the splice plates will be, too.
