Dear everyone! 2018
Please give me introduction what something we need check global stability of non-seismic-tall building ?
Or give me the book that related this item.
Thank you in Advanse!

Sorry, we'll need to know more specifically what you want to check.

Based on your other posts, I think you may be concerned with the global adequacy of pile foundations for a tall building? Presumably against wind load? Is that correct?

As I know for tall building need check:
- drift
- buckling
-...
But I want to know something except above we need check?

I have the two publications below. The first is dedicated to this topic and the author has several other publications in a similar vein. The second has one short section where they examine the torsional buckling of a core braced tower under gravity loads. It takes a fair bit to generate these kinds of failures. And that's good. They would be catastrophic and we don't normally give these scenarios much explicit attention, if any, in routine design. Software probably helps us in this regard as extreme problems often show up as singularities.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

I've not designed a tall building myself -- so I'm curious to hear others contribute as well. But when you say global stability, my mind goes three places:

1. Sliding and overturning checks. Thankfully, buildings (essentially) never slide, and rarely have overturning issues. (I'd only ever give it significant thought for very high lateral loads combined with unique foundation systems).

2. Checking lateral deflections, which could affect at least the following:
Absolute deflection limits (for buildings near property lines)
Story drift limits for serviceability and architectural elements
P-Delta effects on your structural elements
P-Delta stability during construction (depending on construction sequence)

Also, I'd argue that long-term performance of the foundation system should be considered in part 2, so you don't end up with a Millenium Tower type situation (
3. For extremely tall buildings, I might consider aero-elasticity and dynamic wind/vibration responses to fall under the category of "global stability".

KootK thank you!
Lo: Sound great!
So I can sum up for Global Checking:
- Drift/Displacement: Prevent non-/structure damage. Approximately: L/500 (ASCE7)
- Sliding/Overturning: Building stability.
- Frequency: Living Comfort.

Mean while I also want to ask you all about how we applying Elevator Load on Etabs or other?
