Hello guys,

I have question regarding addition of Geometric tolerances to control rectangular form of 2.3mm thick pad of IN70 material.
do we required it on drawing ?
if yes how they will measure this for this thick material ?
if no, how they will make sure that its rectangular & not parallelogram ?

Thank you.

What analysis have you done to determine the limits of the deviation that part variations might have?

If you want something to decorate the drawing use the profile of surface tolerance and the all around symbol pointing to the perimeter of the part with one face as the datum feature reference.

You can make simple gauges that represent the smallest and largest areas the shape are allowed to see if the parts lie between the two limits.

jadham2,

Questions about dimensioning and tolerancing belong in forum1103.

The ASME Y14.5 standard, and I am sure some ISO standard, document what all the numbers and symbols on your drawings mean. You might be surprised.

If you apply [±][ ]dimensions to a rectangular form, ASME[ ]Y14.5 specify that the form must be perfect at maximum material conditions. You don't always need GD&T controls. Read your standard.

It can be a perfect parallelogram subject to the angle tolerances and not fit based on width +/- tolerances alone.

3DDave,

Perfect form at MMC is Rule[ ]#1. There can be an angle error, as long as Rule[ ]#1 is not violated. This is why the OP needs to read the standard, whatever it is.

The width and height are separate features and are not related or restricted by MMC/envelope.
