Hi, and apologies if this question has been answered before:
Small generators, some use a capacitor and auxiliary stator winding to energise the rotor, some use an auxiliary coil and electronic regulator via brushes, some take power from the main windings, with electronic regulation via brushes. What are the main pros and cons of each type ?

TIA
Shane

Brushes tend to be problematic.
As for the other types, I would be more concerned with the quality of the engine.
I had one small brush type generator where the engine bearing was worn and had a slight play.
It was not enough to affect the motor, but it caused serious problems with the brushes.
The brushes would bounce and arc every revolution.
It wasn't worth the cost of overhauling the motor.
