Hello All,

I have a question about GD&T related to tooling balls, in particular the reference dimensions to the center of the tooling ball; in the case attached should these be reference of basic dimensions? The attachment is a simple representation of what I have going on, please feel free to criticize the other aspects. Thanks again!

On the positional tolerance for the tooling ball, add the letter S before the diameter symbol. This changes the tolerance zone from a cylinder to a sphere. Also, you might want to consider locating both features with respect to the same datum reference frame since they appear to be related.

powerhound,

Thanks for the feedback, I was originally pointing towards the hole rather than the ball, but that makes more sense to just to have it on the ball itself since it matches with the function. I assume the the ".687" reference will have to change to a basic dimension?

Yes, the .687 should be basic.
