GD&T Rectangular Fabric

Has anybody had to dimension a rectangular piece of fabric with holes in it? If so, what sort of methods did you use to specify the appropriate dimensional control? For instance, overall size and positional tolerance on the holes.

Once you figure out datums, I cannot see a difference between flexible fabric, and any regular, rigid material. You will have to learn what tolerances are feasible.

The datums are a challenge. In ASME Y14.5, read up on Free State Variation. You need to mount and clamp your part for inspection. Probably, you will have to explain how to do this, on your drawing.

Per drawoh, look at free state variation.

You can essentially say certain dimensions apply when the part is constrained, typically in a manner reflecting end function.

Alternatively you can say certain dimensions apply in free state.

I've used this for dimensioning parts with some flexibility before.
