Hey just wandering if anyone knows where i could find information on discovering the frictional characteristics between two materials, eg Aluminium and Polyurethane

Hi,
It appears as if your question needs more focusing.
The surface preparation of both materials and environmental conditions have to be described and documented. Then one should select between static friction and dynamic friction. Various tests were developed by ASTM for widely different purposes.
A set of articles on friction testing and discussion is included in Vol. 8 of ASM INTERNATIONAL Handbook, 9th Ed., with pertinent References.
It seems that a Table of results would not help unless the testing conditions are fully recorded and are comparable with those of the application sought for.

cheers mate have a look into it.
Its dynamic friction, aluminium will be abraided in a circular pattern(this cannot be changed), just wanna know if theres anything i should know before we begin experimenting.
Its for forming process, boss wants to know the frictional characteristics between these 2 materials.

What do you want to achieve in your experiments? Do you want to increase or decrease the wear rate? If you are polishing, you want to increase wear rate so that your processing time is reduced. On the other hand, in a material handling situation, you may want to achive less wear and thus longer life. Please describe your situation/ problem and goal so that the forum members will be able to help you.

CdotS: Yeah thats exactly it mate, just need to define the COF, and implied Friction forces involved, i know its quite vague, but im still reading up on the experiment myself.
Was just looking to see if anyone recognised the experiment, or knew any good links, cheers
