where can I find some information about the friction coefficient of cast iron on 410 stainless steel? I know it depends on the type of iron and also surface finish but I am looking for some rough estimation. Thank you.

beginnerfeaeng,

You can get an upper-bound on the adhesive wear contribution to the coefficient of friction by using the Tabor Junction growth formula if you know something about the interface strength and the yield strength of the least hard material. Abrasive wear coefficients can be estimated if you know something about the RMS of the two surfaces, the load, and the hardness of the least hard material. I would suggest browsing Google Books for a good tribology book.
