Has anyone else come accross this problem while working on an assembly? One places a component in an assembly, it could be a part or a sub-assembly, and then attempts to use the free drag to move the newly placed component. It has not been constrained or grounded, Inventor seems to freeze not allowing one to move the conponent. The move command works but the as soon as one re-builds the assembly the moved part or assembly goes back to it's previous position.

What could the problem be?
Is there a fix?

I have had this problem before.

I just delete the problem assembly, shut down Inventor, restart computer (and then inventor) and re-place the trouble part. All seems fine then for me?....some things don't make any sense, just gotta roll with it.

Panzer ... close down Inventor and go to your local dealer and buy Pro/ENGINEER :) As you drill deeper you will find more of these problems with Inventor assemblies. We switched it off and moved to Pro/E which has far superior assembly tools for a couple of hundred dollars more.

It's all true...Inventor does seem to have trouble with large assemblies.

With some adaptive assemblies...parts that could be dragged or moved around an axis constraint suddenly become unmoveable when a new constraint is added. Even though the new constraint is totally unconnected to the existing, once moveable part.

I recently had reason to swear at Inventor when an angular constraint being driven from 0 to +90 degrees suddenly decided to go to -90 instead. The constrain had been driven to +90 no less than 40 times before Inventor moved the goal posts.

I also had a couple of adaptive constraints go bad. All was well, I had made some great videos when driving the constraint...all of a sudden...gone. Inventor couldn't drive the constraint any more.

Finally...I have had other problems where an adaptive constraint suddenly stops being driveable. I switch off the "drive adaptivity" button...then it works for a while and then stops. I toggle the drive adaptivity button...then it goes again.

Running IV10...Let's hope IV11 is better.

hydromech pointed out a good point that I didn't think of mentioning. Once to add adaptivity, and cross-part relationships, parts seem to get locked down. I have been able to turn off adaptivity, move a part, and turn it back on....with some success. Occasionally I need to go back to the projected sketch and edit (update) the projected geometry. This MIGHT help?
