Fonts with an apostrophe, etc. 1

Does anyone know of a MicroStation font that includes an apostrophe (" ' ")? Everything I've got translates apostrophes into 15/64 or somthing like that or an omega symbol?

What font and charector are you trying to use?
to check what is available in a font run the mdl fontedit.ma
from >Utilities>mdl applications
you'll need to then select the font.rsc file where all your fonts come from..
then you'll get a visual display of what a specific font and what key create which letter
for example my bentley font 27 with key > creates the centreline symbol.
you may also look at help for settings for fractions

An apostrophe is the character I am trying to use, as I clearly indicated in my post's title and text.. I'm trying to use any font, hence the request for font suggestions in my post. I sure didn't say I was looking for help on fractions.

Anyway, the fonts I am allowed to use per CAD Standards are 1, 3, 23, and 43. I do not have 27 installed. (Also, installation of fonts isn't allowed unless an administrator does it, so I avoid such things.) Now, the font.rsc tables show character number 39 as being an apostrophe. The real question is if that maps to the keyboard's apostrophe or the keyboard's single quotation mark. In my case, instead of an apostrophe, I get 5/32, which is character number 146 for font 1. In font 108, character number 146 is an omega symbol. What's somewhat vexing is that MicroStation isn't consistent in substituting the 5/32 or omega symbol for an apostrophe (or is it a single quotation mark?). I use Axiom's Microsoft Office Importer and sometimes I get the apostrophe, sometimes I don't.

I'm just wondering if there is a font out there that dispenses with this nonsense and knows that I want an apostrophe and not 5/32.

What version are you running on? V8 or J?

As I have already explained how you look for charector in a font in microstation bentley fonts that will support an apostrophe, not all fonts have the same charecters.
now if your getting a fraction instead of the apostrophe from the keyboard apostrophe then look at the font map when your font map actualy shows you it should be an apostrophe, make sure you choose decimal from the display and the \ back slash not the / forward slash
This gives you the charector code.
Then in once established that the font has an apostrophe and you know the charector code , you type in the text editor
DON\39T the result will be DON'T, this works for the Bentley font I have tested here for you
FOR FONTS 1,3,23,43.
AGAIN IF MDL FONTEDIT DOESN'T SHOW YOU THE mapped font CHARECTOR YOU WANT.
Then that font cannot do it.
If your still getting the wrong text then your font.rsc is corrupt and you need to replace it.

cad101: very good. I didn't, er, didn\39t, know about utilizing that. Works for my fonts in-question. I don't like it, but if that's the way it works then, that's the way it works.

We have some weird rules around here. Our IT administrator has locked the font edit mdl. I was able to look at it and our structure is set up and key mapped.
When your hands are tied not much you can do. I was able to view the font.rsc file and they have it all mapped out the way they want.

Namdac i cannot see what your saying is correct
you even if your mdl font edit is "clocked"
you should still be able to run it if the font.rsc file is however locked ie read only then copy the font.rsc file to your hd and rename it and remap it there or better yet show your IT guy what your trying to do ie load all the font maps and screen dump them ... I made book of these for my self
.... The other alternative is to type the entire keyboard
copy it and place the copy just above the first set
ie ABC font 1
ABC font 2
then select only the bottom row and change the font
then lable the font no with the top row std font no
then the bottom row will be the new font
now copy that a number of times and keep incrementing the font by font +1
now if your neat you can creat a decent printable book of all the fonts & which keyboard key will create what charector.
dont forget to type the whole keyboard both upper and lower and all those funny symbols too.

Dave now you got the font working when your running the font edit mdl you'll notice you can change the pull down to make the text needed to create the charector maps by hexidecimal, decimal( the \39) and the last one is screen key or keyboard.. now I didn't mention this before as your default MS location keyboard setting may not allow you to have ' which on my pc is 1st key left of the enter key
even though the ustantion map says its there as as comma key = comma it still may not be available through your font and keyboard map.. by the \XXX codes always work I have a list of the my most used ones for the std cad office fonts and it sits post noted to the side of my monitor... your office buddies will love you if you publish your list of the common ones ie centreline, diameter, squared, micron, cubed, degree, etc

We here work for a D.O.T. in most D.o.t.'s they have administrators that lock down certain features. Example in your level guide the BYLEVEL feature have be disabled so that those of use who are using advanced functions (3-D line styles, 3-d Cells.
Our hands are pretty much tied at this point in time. I have been trying for the last five years to get everyone to design in 3-D, but as with all old timers(retirement mode) don't want to have to do it.
