What are the required certs for light fixtures inside a metal grinding booth which has a fire sprinkler system? Is UL1598 damp location or is the wet location design needed? Does having the sprinkler system drive the requirements or is the application considered regardless of having sprinklers or not. Just want to investigate hazards if they arrise...

Don't know about certification, but grinding certain metals can be highly explosive, such as magnesium or aluminum. They use aluminum powder in manufacturing fireworks, for instance.

As far as I know, presence of sprinklers do not make a room or the space a "wet or damp" location for the purpose of the codes. It is no different than accidental spill of water/liquid in an otherwise dry location.

There may be other hazards due to metal grinding as biff44 mentioned.

Thanks for the feedback. This is a basic grinding booth for mostly steel and some epoxy resins, but no aluminum or mag. Just wanted to make sure there is not any potential operator hazard if the sprinklers do activate
