Fluke 87 problem

dear all

my fluke 87 II stopped working properly and shows wrong and error readings,,,i removed its parts till i saw that on the baord my question is :

1- what may cause this ?
2- what is the burned part ?
3- if i replace it the fluke will work again?

Looks like a blown cap. If you can get a replacement and solder it in it might come back to life. Maybe...
 
The meter may still be under warranty so Fluke might fix it for you. I blew one up years ago and they repaired it for free.

As for the damage, the failure appears to be around the input circuitry so my guess would be that you over-voltaged it and the protection circuitry blew up. Of course, not a complete guess because that's what the one I blew up looked like inside.
 
i think the vairestor got burned due to voltage surge,but still i have error in readings,when i put my selector on daiode mode it give me error readings with sound
 
Looks like an MOV is toast. From the PCB layout that's a fairly young meter and is probably under warranty, so get in touch with Fluke and see what they can offer. What did you connect it to? The 87 is a pretty robust meter.
