I am modelling a flat slab and would like to achieve a column to slab connection like shown on the attached image where the column reinforcement goes through the slab.

Would it be more appropriate to model the column as pinned for the slab design or to model some stiffness in the connection using either the far end fixed or far end pinned approach shown on the attached column stiffness image?

Thanks

Rebar is running through both the column and slab, so my thoughts are that it's appropriate to model with some stiffness. Is pinned-fixed an option? That may give you an economical design.

The old method for hand calculations ; go with far end fixed ..nowadays, with powerful computers and enhanced softwares, modelling the complete structure is peanut..
