Does anyone know any information pertaining to sizing Flash Tanks for steam systems. I am wondering if there is a standard that I must adhear to or if sizing a Flash Tank is simply left up to what the distributer's specs call for.
I believe that there are, at least, two resources. One is ASHRAE HANDBOOK, and other is one North Amercia Valve Vendor's handbook. As I am out of home country for the business, sorry for no further detailed information available.
They offer sized systems based on the boiler capacity, pressure and expected blowdown rate.
I had some ancient ASME papers, from the 1940's on this topic.....developed by a former Stone & Webster Vice president.....I had 'em......but I lost them
I am aware of no recent engineering textor article on this subject.
Your internet link was quite helpful. The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel inspectors provides a document called "A Guide for Blowoff Vessels" where they identify a good target velocity for the steam vapor of 11 ft/sec to allow for proper seperation.
Im not having any luck locating the discussion you made reference to (I'm rather new on this website) and I was hoping you could point me more in the right direction. Thank again for your help.
