A landslide in Tibet, China has blocked the river and formed a massive reservoir. Chinese authorities have warned India that the plug can break anytime in next 48 hours.

The Indian side has removed people from the affected area but many hydropower projects on the downstream face a threat, the severity on which is totally unknown.

flmae.

What is the current situation with the river?

fmara,

The lake is still not burst but everything on downstream remains on guard. No one is sure how strong the blockade of the river really is. It may turn out to be a permanent thing but most of the engineers believe it is only a matter of time that the flood will start gushing out and wash everything along the river.

Incidentally, I have made some bridges on the same river...

Thanks for the up date, looks like you may need to get those plans out again just in case.
Are the people that live along the river still in emergency shelters or have they started to drift back to their homes?

Its been six months sence your initial post, has there been any developments?

Keano

Keono,

No. It seems to have been stabilized. Perhaps the debris plays a well designed rockfill dam!

Ciao.

Flamby.

Just reading through some old post and spotted this one. Has there been any further developments, can you provide us with some aerial photo's of the lake?
