Preparing tender for design and installation of 150 foot tall flag pole.
Can anyone provide details for its installation?

You will need a crane and a foundation. Do you want to embed the pole in the foundation or do you want to use a baseplate?

Embedding in the foundation has a few considerations such as corrosion and how do stabilize the pole until the grout sets. You probably don't want the crane out there the whole time holding the pole while the grout sets up.

Baseplate would be easier, but you'll need to provide anchor bolts in the foundation. Don't forget to design the foundation to include a couple of flags blowing in the wind for overturning purposes.

That is a pretty tall pole. I think, in addition to what Ron said about flags, you should think about vortex shedding. It will almost certainly be a factor in the design.

I agree that anchor bolts and baseplate is the way to go.

Thanks for your responses.

Anchors and a baseplate.

I'm looking for a rigging procedure (or advice), perhaps from someone whose being involved in a past project. Lifting it from horizontal to vertical, onto the anchors and safely removing any installation hardware.

The flagpole design company (yourself ?) needs to consider the bending moment on the pole as it is first lifted: A 150 ft long simple beam - particularly a beam strong enough to resist wind loads 150 ft up! - will be very heavy, and if it is being lifted at only one hook and a strap the gravity forces will create unusual stresses in the pole that won't be seen during operation.

Try a sling or brace to spread the bending movement out along the pole as it comes up from the truck or rack.

If a truck moves it into the erection (election ?) area in one piece, look very carefully at swing distances as the truck turns.
