What do I need to set in windows firewall to allow the lic. server to work. Currently I shutdown the firewall on the server and all works, if I enable the firewall it doesn't. Thus I must need to add an exception or port to the allow list but can't find out what this is.

Thanks for any responses.

You need to set the license server as an exception (the file is {flexnet\i486_nt\obj\} lmtools.exe.

You will also need to add the port that you have set up in the license file as an exception - the default TCP port is 7788.

I checked and have both of those things in as exceptions in the Firewall on the server machine. The server machine is XP and the client is Vista if that provides any clues. I know that if I disable the firewall and the server I can obtain the license without any problem but prefer not to run that way.

I think you also have to let the xtop process on the client communicate with the license server. I would never put a firewall between a license server & a workstation. Put the firewall between the outside world & your intranet.
