i suppose you may start by obtaining the standards from the nfpa - nfpa 13 is a start. there are websites available that allow you to purchase the documents. yes, they are not free.
i would also highly recommend that you obtain the services of a certified fire protection engineer in your location, based on the potential lack of knowledge on your part regarding fire sprinkler systems.

As I recall, the state of Tennessee has recently set fairly rigid standards on who can design fire sprinkler systems, and what ought to be considered in the process. While this might vary from place to place, the advice above to get a knowledgable engineer on the job is good advice.

I agree with the Pmover, that you should obtain the services of a certified FPE or at least sprinkler designer. Even it looks simple, designing of sprinkler system is not a game - size of NFPA 13 standard confirms that. You should also check who is insurer, since FM Global has some aditional requirements.

Again, just another confirmation that sprinkler systems aren't just something to be thrown together. Fire sprinkler systems provide property protection AND life safety.
