Can anyone point me in the right direction to find information on hardened fire rated fans? I am trying to provide an aleternative for sprinklers within a design and this is the option. Need some background info and costings to satisfy the client and building control.

Are you sure about 800 degrees fire rating?

Normally this question must be initially solved with local fire authorities, I have similar exercise at the moment.

What is considered "fire-rated" differs from country to country, but normally fire resistance is observed at 300-400 degrees Celsius range and appropriate certificate is issued which must be acceptable for your fire authorities.

On the other hand, possibility to exclude sprinkler by using smoke control system strictly depends on reference standard used for overall building fire strategy. It affects dividiations of fire zones.

For example, if you want to use whole building (for some particular type of building) as one fire zone NFPA 101 prescribes that you must have sprinkler, no matter whether you have smoke control or not.

If I were you, I would consult fire authorities or consultant for your area first. Then you will see. Sometimes, there are really good opportunities to do value engineering and impress your client.
