Hello everybody,

I have a simple problem which I cannot solve... Example: I have on column A the position number (1,2,3, ...) and on column B different values (measurement values). I can very easy put in a cell the maximal (or minimal) value of my B column using the "max" ("min") function, but how can I put near that cell another one with the position number where this maximal (minimal) value is? And, if possible, without using macros...
Thank you in advance for your answers!

try following rmula to find index of maximum value in the range: = match(max(B1:B10),B1:B10,0)

If you swapped your column A and column B, you could use

=+vlookup(max(A1:A5),A1:B5,2,FALSE)

Alternatively, you could leave A and B as is, put a duplicate copy your position numbers out into column AA, and use
=+vlookup(max(B1:B5),B1:AA5,26,FALSE)
That's a little cumbesome and assumes you don't have any data out there. I don't really like extra hidden columns because it's easy to forget about them when you change your data.

Maybe there are some other ways?

While this may not help you acheive your particular goal, I do this graphically by applying the max (or min) function and then conditional format the column of numbers to BOLD any numbers that match the result of the max (or min) function. Good Luck
