I am trying to determine the film coefficient, h, as defined in Tema chapter 7. I need this in order to determine the overal heat transfer coefficient for an indirect line heater (API 12k). The bath heat medium is water and the coil / tube medium is water as well. The heat medium water is heated to 190 F.

Are there. E

Sorry are there any sources that would give a published film coefficient between the pipe and water (bath and coils). Thanks.

Most process heat transfer text have a section that has a nomograph or equation for this type of heat transfer coefficient. One term to use to search their index is "natural convection". Kern refers to it as free convection.

All information required to enable the derivation of hi, ho and overall U can be found in many heat transfer textbooks - try DQ Kern " Process Heat Transfer " as suggested. Mc Graw Hill has stopped reprinting this book, so you may need to get a 2nd hand one.
