Is anyone familiar with ferroxyl testing of titanium? I have a requirement to "ferroxyl test" titanium components before shipment. How is this accomplished? Is it a difficult test?

ASTM A 380 Standard Practice for Cleaning, Descaling, and Passivation of Stainless Steel Parts, Equipment, and Systems has a section (7.3.4) that describes the ferroxyl test. You can obtain more information using the following link:

The test is very easy. The easiest way to carry it out, particularly if you have a large area to test, is to use a hand-held spray bottle. To test the solution, squirt some on a piece of carbon steel and watch it turn blue!
