Fellows,

I have a base plate with a circular hollow section. A certain portion of the base plate inside the CHS member has a hole of 40mm.

I have decided to use STAAD pro v8i to see whether having a 40mm hole will not affect the strength of base plate and the bearing capacity of my conrete.

I have attached the code of the model.

Few things I am really confused.

Note: The green comment inside the editor has the options that I have numbered above.

1. For the supports, I used plate mat foundation feature and it generates the support condition with a subgrade modulus of 24000kN/m3. I obtain it from multiplying 0.4x60MPA which is the strength of my concrete. The four nodes I used pin as a representation of my anchor bolt. The strength is passed. the bearing is passed. But...If i will animate the structure it is not capturing the true behavior.

2. If I will only use the pin supports in the 4 nodes for the anchor bolt..the column fails and a portion of my plate fails.

3. If I will use plate mat foundation which will generate the spring values for the plate except at the four points and at the mesh exactly where bolt is located then my column and plate still fails which I believe should not happen.

Could anyone advise what I am missing here.

Its a behavior-result problem.
