We are looking into creating a family part of some brackets. However, depending on which bracket is selected, some attatched components may need to be in diferent positions. Not just moved over, but possibly rotated as well.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a drout in expression knowledge here. lol

If anyone can point me to an article or video about creating expressions that reposition components, I would very much appreciate it.

Note: I would be repositioning standard components as well as details. So I wont be able to do anything to odify the standard components.

Proper application of 'Distance' and 'Angle' Constraints should allow you to do what you want. You may require multiple Constraints if you want control movement in more than one direction or relative to more than one axis.

I am still learning expressions as it is. So everything is taking some digging. I was just watching one of your videos on expressions. ( I believe you would be the same John Baker. I dont suppose you have any video that shows you working with an expression that is attatched to constraints? Even if it is just moving the part a short ways? :o) I cant put to words how much a visual helps me figure things out. lol

And thanks to all for all the help on here. I seem to keep heading in different directions from day to day and I am learning a lot from here.

Attached is a video file showing the application of a couple of Distance Constraints and how the expressions can be edited to move them parameterictlly.

Thanks John

I was playing with it trying to make it work like you do the expressions in this video but was not quite to getting it figured out. lol I may have been trying to make it more complicated than it is. I want to set up the spreadsheet in a family parts to allow the options to witch distance it places it. But I will have to wait til tomorrow to get it figured out.

I do appreciate your help. Thanks.

Yes, that's me ;-)
