Excel 97 SR-1

I have just started using a new Sony laptop (win2K & Xl 97 SR-1) but the numerical data entry is alwways divided by 100
eg type 123 and get 1.23 - this does not happen in a formula entry eg =10*10 and it displays 100
Anyone got any ideas?

select the menu item /Tools/Options, then select the Edit Tab. See if the box for fixed decimal places is checked and if 2 is the number in the box there. Uncheck the fixed decimal box and try it then.

Thanks chichuck - the worst thing is I have a funny feeling I checked the box myself when I set it up in the first place and then couldn't see it for looking )
