Anyone had experience with this issue? I thought it might've been a network issue the first time but it's now done it twice. When I add a linear trendline to a chart then click OKAY, Excel freezes up and won't let me do anything. Task Manager says Excel is "running", not "not responding" and under Processes it is not using a measurable portion of the processing power.

I've had problems with Excel due to corruption of a cell. I couldn't see what was wrong, but the corrupted cell caused multitude of problems.

I'd copy the data and chart into another spreadsheet and see if it works.

Maybe just too much data and it's still calculating? Have a cup of coffee while it does the number crunching and then pull the plug if it's still not working.

I only had 15 datapoints that were entered values, not from formulas, so I don't think its a processing issue.

Sometimes it works fine and other times it locks up so, it could be a corrupt cell or something. I can't remember which workbook I was working on last time it locked up.

My computer's also got Dell's hard disk communication issue that causes the blue screen of death so the Excel problem may be related to that as well.

I use trendlines all the time and never had a problem. It could be related to your hard drive issue (retry, retry, retry...). You might want to reinstall Excel on another part of your hard drive.

Back up often!
