Dear everyone,

We are a group of translators who are a little bit lost! This time we are translating a handbook about water pumps, and we have some doubts. One of them is that we don't know exactly which are the specific different parts of a venturi or jet pump; for example, how are the two nozzles called, where the mixture of liquids is produced, when does the difusser starts, etc.

We would welcome any explanation you can give us!! thank you so much in advanced!

Mike - don't think that Wiki is all that clear to someone outside of engineering.

Basically a jet / eductor / venturi pump has three main components.

1. Nozzle - thru which air or liquid is pumped at high pressure and velocity
2. An inlet port /mixing area
3. Diffuser which is located ahead of the nozzle.

These are shown on Wiki as
1. motive connection
2. suction connection
3. the tapered nozzle and converging (mixing) and diverging connection.

High pressure gas/ water is pumped thru the motive connection where it mixes with product in the suction or inlet section before discharging thru the converging/diverging section.

What takes place is - you pump lets say 1 gallon thru the nozzle which in turns mixes with product in the mixing area, this will increase the flow to between 1.2 to 1.5 gallons which is then discharged thru the converging/ diverging section.
