Error when exporting a BOM

I am trying to export an Inventor 11 BOM to either a .xls or .mdb file type and get the following error;

Autodesk Inventor 11
---------------------------
Couldn't create database--Exception:
Unable to append data to file.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

I am able to export it as a csv though.

any thoughts?
