Hi,

I'm preparing for a meeting where we are reviewing a piping system including steam and condensate piping.

All carbon steel pipes have an corrosion/erosion allowance of 1 mm. I would like to evaluate if this assumption is reasonable.

Do you know of any reference (hopefully a standard) that I could use to to evaluate the rate of corrosion/erosion?

Corrosion and erosion are two different mechanisms that you have to evaluate separately even if there is the possibility of simultaneous erosion-corrosion. you've to define the type of corrosion based on fluid composition and operating conditions (CO2, water??) and the you can assess the likelihood of erosion using for example the API RP 14 E or the DNV RP O501

hope this help

Your piping has a minimum Cr requirement right?
There have been a number of EPRI reports on FAC (flow accelerated corrosion) of steel in wet steam service.
These would be available from
