Dear Forum,
What would be your thoughts on following corrosion (file attached). What could be the cause?

The tube has a 10mm inner diameter, material is 4140 heat treated in salt bath. The tube was never used, was in storage, and after a month when it was going to be assembled in the machine, found that the inner diameter was corroded.

I think the cause is residues of the salth bath, but in SEM/EDS analysis just found small amount of K ( the salth bath is KCL+NaCl). Also the amount of cooper is high for a 4140 steel, any toughts about that?

thanks,

Possibly something has happened during heat treatment, contaminants boiled off, etc.
