Equivalent to Replace Reference Set (NX6.0)

Is there any equivalent in SE of the '' REPLACE REFERENCE SET'' function in NX 6.0.

Im trying to start from a parasolid assemblie and to create parametric part from it. The probleme is that i cannot '' unlink'' the protrusion that i want to create from the original parasolid parts.

I hope I was clear ans sorry if my english is not flawless but I was unfortunately born as a French Canadian just kidding.

Salut David!

Are you working with Solid Edge Synchronous Technology or with the traditionnal environment.

If you are importing a parasolid I would suggest Synchronous.

I don't know NX so I'm guessing here...

In Synchronous you can "detach" a group of faces from the model.

Just to be clear, David, did you create your part "in place" into the context of the assembly? I don't have access to SE right now, but if I remember correctly, by right-clicking on the linked part in the pathfinder, you have the option to break the link, if that is what you are looking for. I don't know NX either...

Haha Ben j'ai essayer de créer la part en place mais je ne suis pas capable de la ''calquer'' si je peux m'exprimer ainsi.
Le problème c'est que c'est du tubing que j'essai de reconstruire de façon plus standard et quand j'essai de créer la '' part in place '' je n'ai aucune référence ( plan ) ou quoi que ce soit pour me fixer.

Je sais pas si ca répond un peu a vos questions c'est difficile d'être claire.

Vérification faite je n'ai pas la fonction Break Link mais j,ai eu des problèmes a cause que je n'ai pas une liscence complète si tu pourrais me confirmer que cette fonction existe belle et bien ca serais merveilleux.

I've done my homework and I don't hate the Break link Fonction but I already had trouble beacause I dont have a Full license. It would be fabulous if you can confirm that such a fonction really do exist.

I don't think the break link fonction can be disabled by the license you have.

I would rather check if you are in the right context to break the link.

But if you start from the beginning. From my point of view you are trying to build kind of a frame based on a parasolid assembly is that right? Can you confirm if you are using Synchronous or Traditionnal to do so? I think with synchronous you could modify directly the part you imported from parasolid. On the other end if you want to do this with traditionnal then it's a different workflow.

Do you mean that you're unable to use any existing plane, face or edge in your assembly?

After clicking on the Create In-Place button in the Parts library, I usually just select "Coincident with assembly origin" in the pop-up window, because it's less of a hassle (or maybe I'm just lazy).

Could you explain what Replace Reference Set does in NX so that we have an idea of what you are trying to achieve.

I'm using traditional setting.

I'm trying to make an exact copy of the parasolid in order to have the feature tree ( arborescence ) and to be able to modify my part in a near future. So I start with a parasolid made out of multiple dead solid and in the end I want to recreate every single part with their respective feature in order to modify them later on.

Furthermore it is a direct request from the client.

In UGS NX I can as an exemple open part which is a dead body ( parasolid ) and with the sketch tool copy the shape of the parasolid and the extrude it. So basically I hate the same shape which are overlapping.

Then I can, with the replace reference set tool, decide select wich feature I want to appear in the assembly. So i can choose to have just the feature that i create from the sketch and no the parasolid.

The idea behind all that is to recreate all the part in the exact same place so i don't havre to mate my different part wich are in this case bent tubing wich is a pain in the ass to mate.

From what I'm reading, to accomplish this I would probably create a new part and then insert the parasolid part with the part copy feature to have it as a construction surface. Then I would be able to recreate the part from scratch but still be able to model it right over the part copy. Then you can easily hide the part copy. Also since the part copy will be only construction surface you will not see them in the assembly.

I hope that make sense.
