Hello All,
I have been asked what seems to be a very simple question but being extremely new I am unsure of my answer. A piece of equipment is needed on a sensitive floor with a 100 psf rating. If the equipmemt is 860lbs on (6) 1" wide casters with (4) outriggers with a worker 170lbs, can the weight be redistributed using 2"x12" wood planks 12ft long and be under the weight restriction of 100psf?

What does the floor and its support members consist of? There may be sufficient strength there to distribute the loadings.

The room is set up for a college Virtual reality area, they have no benefical drawings or plans. I pulled a carpet square back to find thin metal plates but was asked not to disturb the flooring anymore than what I already had[thumbsdown] so all I have been provided is the floor rating of 100 psf.

Is the equipment weight fairly evenly distributed? You can easily have equipment where 3/4 of the weight is to one side for example. Besides the square footage loading, there may have been a minimum concentrated load designed also.

Once the (4) outriggers are in use, the load cog is dead center. I am in the belief that 2x12 planks with 3/4 plywood sheeting above should be sufficient in distribution of the weight. I am just unsure if there was anything else I am missing other than the existing floor make up that is not available.

If this a manufactured raised floor system you may need data from the system supplier. A floor system like this:
