Hello.

This is my first week on Solidworks. I have an educational edition (18.5).

I have tried linking dimensions to equations. When I try to set a global variable:

"length" = 60

The equation is marked with a red "!" which i gather means it can't be evaluated.

My goal is to have a structural steel part where I can change the length according to its place in the drawing.

What is wrong?

The equation works fine for me. (SW2011-SP4EV) There is/was no red !

Thank you. It still displays a red "!" for me.

This shouldn't matter (I checked anyways) since I have the dimension of the extrusion set to "Rail_length" :

"Rail_length" = 20
"D1@Boss-Extrude1" = "Rail_length"

What concerns me is that I can't set any global variables. I have no idea why this could be.

Could be a problem with VBA installation.

Hmm. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Solidworks. There were no errors. How would I know if there is an error with VBA installation? I have read the attache thread. It isn't really the same behavoir.

If I put the iif(1,5,10) statement in direction D1 of the extrude feature it evaluates to 5.

Can you post a Screenshot of your "Equations" window?
