I am in the process of making an attribute mockup of a individually constructed vehicle. I will be using a Mitsubishi 6G75 V6 engine and 5 spd manual gearbox. To get the drive output to the height I require I need to raise it 45mm. The simplest means is to tilt the engine/gearbox 12 degrees forwards. Obviously I will need to check the sump pickup and gearbox oil levels, but does anyone foresee any other problems?

I'd be worried about oil levels in the rocker covers and so on. Ah, hang on this is a transverse system. maybe not such a big deal.

You are correct, in a transverse engine I don't believe this will be an issue.

Many thanks, I will check oil levels and drain back when the engine is running. The other option was to rotate the gearbox relative to the engine, but this is much more work than simply tilting the whole lot!
 
Well it never rains it pours!...the angle is in reality 23 degrees! This will enable level driveshafts, but again how much is too much WRT rotation of the engine?
 
Is this a front or rear wheel drive vehicle?

mid engined, rwd vehicle for motorsport use. Using the FWD transverse engine/transmission relocated to mid/rear engine.

Thanks, I had missed the first thread, which is the one that seems most relevant. I will investigate further the engine's oil circuit and see how the drain-back to the sump is arranged. For this chassis I will tilt the engine (assuming the drain back seems sufficient) and see how it goes.
The second chassis will be race-only (or I envisage it so) and I will rotate the gearbox, which will allow for a dry sump and a 50mm lower engine (lots of work though).
 

I'm not quite sure how you are fitting this engine,do you mean you are changing from east west fwd to north south rwd?
If this is the case one prob you might encounter is oil frothing if crank and rods contact the oil,another option might be to source a sump and pick up from a rear wheel drive model eg ute or 4WD as it would be baffled in the right direction.

No the engine remains E/W and is moved from the front to the mid-rear position ala' Toyota MR2.
 
Be sure to give some thought to the effects of lateral acceleration (especially braking), as you consider the coverage of oil over the pickup.
 
I'd heard all the negatives on tilting my FWD Mini-Cooper engine, but I did it anyway...not anything like 23 degrees, for sure, but as much as I could and still be acceptable with the racing club rules. It helps level up the drive shafts and, in my case, puts the gear change lever at a better angle and raises my steering arms a tad for a better bump steer (LOL) graph.

In practice, none of the worries of oil buildup in the valve cover are a problem except when you remove the cover. No oil pickup problems (I still use an accumulator, however).
23 degrees? Hmmmm...I think I could make it function. At least you don't have the gearbox and engine sump combined.

I've rearranged the rear end a bit and should be able to get the angles I want for a 14 degree tilt.

Plan on tinkering with the suspension bushing specs and toe curves a bit. The same effects that give you understeering tendencies when applied to the front suspension typically become oversteer when you move that same hardware/geometry to the back end. I think the rather low "production" SHOgun (Taurus SHO powertrain mid-mounted in the Festiva chassis) went through this sort of teething pain.

The whole suspension will be bespoke to the vehicle.
