Hey All,

I am working with a company and one of the projects I am working on is redesigning the lube oil system for bearings on their embossing rolls (calandar rolls actually). I am looking for someone that has experience in this area to answer a couple of questions.

1. The rolls are about 5 meters in length and are supported on the ends only. The lead maintenance guy was telling me they pressurize the rolls to control the deflection of the rolls. Why would this be done? If both rolls are the same material and same diameter isn't the deflection for both rolls going to be identical?

2. Has anyone seen air bearings being used in this type of application?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Regards,
