I created a solid part so that I could use it to create a sheetmetal part (orange in attached photo), which I did successfully. Now I have my sheetmetal part that I want to manipulate further, but if I delete the solid I lose the sheetmetal part since they're parent-child. Is there a way I can get rid of the solid part or export the sheetmetal part to its own file?

Thanks!

Unless you're running NX 8.5 your only real option is to either 'Hide' the solid body or move it to an invisible layer.

However, if you ARE running NX 8.5 we've added a rather unusual function...

Insert -> Trim -> Delete Body...

...which will 'delete' a solid/sheet body in such a manner that it will NOT disrupt any downstream 'parent-child' relationships that it might be responsible for. And later on if you need to, you can easily 'resurrect' the 'deleted' body.

Or you could break the links between the parent solid and its child features. In some files this would be a daunting task, but in the simple file you have it shouldn't be too difficult.

I actually just ended up uniting the parts and using boolean operations to eliminate the solid. I'm only running NX-7.5 though, so I don't have the operation that John mentioned. Thanks again for the help guys!
