HI,
I have been looking for some literature to clearly understand what Element formulation's role is. Kindly help me out in this search.

Thank you

sorry mate, but you have to be slightly more specific.

else start with an FEA primer.

There are some basic things to know: element type (continuum, shell, plate, membrane, beam, rod, etc). Each is based on some assumptions, just like those in basic mechanics of materials. They work fine if you don't violate the assumed response.

Next you should also understand the influence of linear vs quadratic elements (or other higher order representations). Higher integration order provides better representaion of the stress gradient within the element.

If you want all the gory details, read Zienkiewicz's definitive work: "The Finite Element Method".

Which is available as an e-book through Amazon
