Can anybody recommend a machine that will electrically test both three phase and single phase appliances easily?

The three phase appliances are not hard-wired (5-pin 3P+N+E type plugs).

Thanks in advance

the term "electrically test" is way too vague...

Describe what you want to test and why.

Apologies for the vague question!

I would like a PAT testing machine that performs the same tests (easily) on a three phase piece of equipment.

Not where I am from, I thought PAT stood for Portable Appliance Test.

This gets more intriguing by every post! Now what is a Portable Appliance Test? And what portable appliance? A toaster? Microwave? Generator? Pump? With our without built-in electronic controls?

Voltage? wattage?

Others may describe this a bit differently.

In the early 1990s, EU wide regulations came in placing a duty on employers to put in place arrangements through which they could take reasonable steps to ensure that equipment in the workplace was safe to use.

From this simple requirement has grown a massive service industry which patrols workplaces on an annual basis, tracking down every single portable electrical appliance and:

Where it is a double insulated appliance, giving it a quick visual inspection.

Where it isn't, supplementing the inspection with a quick suite of insulation resistance and earth continuity tests

And in either case, registering the test and sticking a label on the appliance inviting the employer to open his wallet again next year.

To allow the testing to be conducted by minimally competent (cheap) personnel, a whole range of dedicated "portable appliance testers" are now on the market. See, for instance,
