ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEM SIMULATOR 1

Hello,

I need an easy-to-use Electrical Power system simulator for our company in Ghana. It is to be used for training purpose for learning the behavior of our power system under various operating conditions and configuration. It will also be used by our engineers for the day to day operation of our power system.

It must be able to perform loadflow, fault , harmonic, transient Stability and Protection analysis on generators, motors, switchgears, transmission lines and busbars.

I have been reading on ERACS, ETAP and DIgISILENT Software.

From those of you who have an experience in using these software, which one do I go for and why. If there is any different power system simulator tool which will serve my purpose better than the three let me know with your reasons.

You really will not find a single piece of software that will do everything you desire very well. You WILL find software that does do power flow, fault analysis, and transient stability. Those three functions are generally related enough that the same data set may be used (i.e. starting with positive sequence power flow topology). Harmonic analysis and proper protection analysis generally require particular tools to do that work well.

That said, there are some vendors that supply a COLLECTION of tools that will do what you ask...it is best to view them as truly different software by the way.

If I was looking for software I would focus on the fundamental simulation of power flow and transient stability analysis. Given that focus I would assess the staff I had available and what level of training I could afford to make my staff productive. My recommendation would be to take a look at PowerWorld Simulator. Easy to learn, completely adheres to the MS Windows architecture, and provides a drawing and mapping capability that might be very useful.

Other choices would be GE PSLF/PSDS and PTI PSS/E & PSDS4 software.
