I was wondering if anyone could help? In a closed pressure vessel, heating up a solution will obviously increase the pressure.

If the volume of solution is increased (the headspace reduced) prior to heating, and the same solution heated to the same temperature, will the pressure differ?

Thank you

All depends on your expansion coefficients for the gas and liquids

I think it depends on exactly how the solution is increased (and the headspace is reduced) prior to heating. If the solution is increased such that the headspace is compressed (initial pressure increases) the final pressure will be greater. If the solution is increased such that the headspace is at the same initial pressure the final pressure will be the same.

Good luck,
