e-transmit utility

That's something to do with your ISP. Yahoo doesn't allow you to attach .exe files (due to the risk of virus propagation - allowing .exe is giving a blank check) and I suspect Verizon doesn't either. Some ISPs you can fool by zipping the .exe file, others you can't. The easiest way to transmit an .exe file is with an ftp server.

MS Outlook is just an email client, it uses the same ISP as whatever else you were using. My company has its own ftp server that either we employees or clients can up/download files to/from.
If you don't have one available to you then you may have to send the actual file, rather than an exe. What does e-transmit do? Is it a self-extracting zip file?

I even tried the e-transmittal type .zip and it would not allow me to transmit. I did resort to the old fashion way of transmitting my files. The main problem is that I had a total of six separate files (five of which were Xreferences) but eventually they got transmitted.
My question is why would autodesk develop such utility for clients such as you which I would think present a limited market.

Do eTransmit, in window select "Transmittal Setups...", modify, go to "Transmittal file folder" and browse to desktop, OK.
Create your email from your Yahoo or Verizon and send the file.

Now that I'm in the office... yes, the problem is that you have selected a self-extracting zip file (.exe) instead of a regular zip file (.zip). Go to Transmittal Setups as mentioned above, modify and the first option (Transmittal package type) should be Zip, not self-extracting executable as you have it already set-up.

You can set up your own FTP server. There are several inexpensive programs that have fairly good security and encryption. At one time I used my PC to set up customer specific sites so they each had access to their own files. I think the program I had settled on was RaidenFTP. There was little traffic so my ISP was not concerned.
A static IP is best since you don't have to tell your clients that it has changed. However, you get an IP address with a certain "lease" time that effectively does not expire under most normal conditions. I have had the same IP address for more than a year now. It's a low risk gamble to solve a short term problem - use email but when it fails fall back to ftp. Either that or get a business account with your ISP or set up an account with an ISP that will give static IP addresses. My clients accept that for "security reasons" the IP address may change for the ftp site at random times.
