Ductile Iron Pipe Supports

Question regards ductile iron piping supports. We are designing a pipe rack module (skid)which will be floor mounted. Will likely be using unistrut for supporting pipes up to 24" diameter. Support frames are at 8' spacing to accomodate some of the smaller piping. Are saddles routine or required for ductile pipe? Is there a size limitation, such as "saddles for pipes sizes 12" and larger?

Have frequently run carbon steel pipe without saddles. How about ductile iron (cement lined) pipe?

Additional concern is the limited contact area, pipe to unistrut, which has not been a concern with normal piping conditions.

surface contact is going to be minimal with the unistrut, B-Line offers a variety of options for weight transfer. 24" dictile pipe with fluid is going to be heavy, I installed a fire line in a tunnel that was supported by unistrut racks. They were 6' on center and we used "double backed strut" at every rack we ran a 5/8" dia. s.s u-bolt around the pipe (12" pipe) at each rack we used the B-Line rollers, (bottom of the pipe still made contact with the rack) rollers were used only for weight transfer. If a flanged joint exceeded 2' from a rack, specs called out for another rack or a grinell 250 cast iron support, this may seem excive, but water surges can really move pipe around...food for thought
