hello - i have a situation w/ a machine that i could use some help w/ - we have a rotating nut that is made of ductile iron that is binding in a steel bore which it sits in - our manufacturing facility machined the bore to the wrong finish & no lube was provided for the nut or bore - is there such a strip material on the same lines of garlocks "du" bushing material that can be glued into the existing bore - to re-machine the bore is a nightmare along w/ dis-assembly of the parts - - the nut is approx. 7" dia - any info would be greatly appreciated - thank you

Hi duk748

If you only glue something into the bore how do you know it won't spin when you try to machine it? or even worse come loose during service.
Think you might be better biting the bullet and re-machine/

DU material is available in strip form. Page 3-5 in the catalog.
Neither surface may be any good now for running on bushing material. Re-machining of both may have to be done to clean up the surfaces.

hello again & thank you for the reply - yes, this is what i would do but my higher ups will have no part of this due to cost - i too have looked at the du bearing strip material & also wonder how it will stay inplace & not spin - if it were me i would use a bronze sleeve & re-machine the bore but it is not my call - i just have to try & find some type of "cheap" solution - any other help would be appreciated - thank you

Garlock (now GGB) has some DU thrust washers, perhaps that can work?

once again i thank you for all the help - after mulling around w/ this problem w/ the "powers that be" the decision was made to change the design & fix what is wrong now by taking it apart & making it right - finally - we are starting to make progress
