Drawing Symbols

Hi,


I am looking for the difference of drawing symbol "PL" on two occasions.please find the below two sketches.

Sketch 1 is for a location reference on a fabrication part, and sketch 2 is dimensional reference on a sheet metal part.


Appreciate if somebody can differentiate themeaning of the symbol at two occasiions?

From what you have shown the A 2 PL would refer to distance from the centerline to the edges of the top and bottom plates in the first picture. In the second picture the notes refers to the number of holes with the specified diameters.

PL is an abbreviation for PLACES. It is obsolescent. Most drafting standards use X now.
