Drawing file getting large

I don't understand what is going on here- my model is a large, complex casting. It is 24.7 Mb. The drawing for it is 49.7 Mb however. The drawing is 8 D-size sheets and there are about 42 different views and sections.

I know it is large because it takes several minutes at each rebuild and save. I would think the drawing file would be much smaller than the model. The model also rebuilds and saves in seconds rather than minutes.

I understand there is a light version that can be used for email, so maybe it is not an issue, although I will need to email the comlete file so that the end user can modify it.

If I am doing evertything right, then I will see what more ram will do.

I sometimes find my file sizes growing unproportionally too. I downloaded a small application called UNFRAG.EXE and I run it on my file server occasionally. As I understand it the reason some files are larger than they should be is related to object linking and embedding (OLE), and this little gem reorganizes information in the file and shrinks it. In some cases this will save a ton of space. Google UNFRAG and I'm sure you will find it. This is NOT the same as Windows Defragmenter which is already in your machine.

Guys it's not you. Service pack 1.1 is supposed to fix the problem. Drawings are crashing on me in save as pdf due to insuffcient memory (I have 1GB ram, P4 3.2ghz). I haven't installed the service pack yet though. The other thing to realize about file size is that, the file size can get very large due to the file being opened and images being saved with the file for previewing or lightweight display. Take the model and do a save as copy to a different name, then look at the file sizes of the two before opening the copy and you'll notice a big difference the larger the file. If you a part with multiple configurations, turn off "save tesselated data" and the file size will be dramitically smaller. Hope that helps.
