Down the hole hammer in soils

Are there any problems that might be encountered in trying to progress a boring with a DTH hammer in saturated sandy or clayey soils?

It's not the best type of soil for DTH. Obviously it can't work with a DTH alone but with an OD method such as ODEX , SYMETRIX or other methods.
