I am working on a project with 2.5" NWC on 1" non composite metal deck (total of 3-1/2" deep) supported by steel open web joists at 2'-0" OC.
Do we need to specify saw cut joints on the concrete. the floor layout is about 180'x120'. Thanks.

We never require CJ on elevated structural slab or deck-slab systems.

It feels like in this case, the deck itself is the structural member, so you could put control joints, however at that thickness they would need to be at a ridiculous spacing to even have an effect.

Let 'er crack. It will anyway. But what is "NWC"? I do hate acronyms, or abbreviations, or initials, whatever that is.

Related article Hokie may or may not have been channeling: Link. Just an elaboration on the views expressed here. Identical rationale to Jayrod's.

What kind of application is this? I would be worried about an elevated slab that is only 2.5" thick. 1" floor deck seems to be too much for only 2.5" of NWC. 0.6C deck would be enough if the span is not that large. Seriously consider floor vibrations.

Lutfi
