Divide Curve Issue - By Bounding Objects (Project Points) - Unable to split spline

I’m having an issue with the Divide Curve function. I need to divide this large enclosed spline into two curves, one extremely small, the other nearly as large as the original spline. For example, on my first attempt, I picked a point at the spline's start point / end point (coincident) and another point on the curve, 0.001” away from the original point. The divide curve function with these inputs returned a single curve, the exact same curve that I was trying to divide. There is no error message.

The attached part contains the spline in question. I tried to divide the curve many different times with different points, each time progressively increasing the distance from the spline's start point. The divide curve function did not successfully return two separate curves until the two dividing points were approximately .250” away from each other.

Does anyone have any clue as to why the divide curve function is not working for the spline with the points in the file? Could there be a threshold value where the points splitting the curve need to be a certain percentage (in length) of the original curve?

Thank you,
jgolen

It might be a bug or the object method you're using wasn't intended to be used as you're trying to use it. I do see the behavior you're describing when using Project Point, but I'm not sure that's the method I'd use since the points lie upon the curve - there isn't anything to project, so to speak. However, moving the points -0.05" in Z gave the same results, so I'm leaning towards a bug.

I successfully divided the curve at the points which were 0.001" apart using both Existing Curve & Point and Vector methods. For the existing curve, I created one line passing through each point and perpendicular to the spline. For the Point and Vector, I picked each point and set +ZC as the vector for both points.

Even putting 2 planes (one at arclength of 0 and one at 0.001) didn't work as I'd expect - I ended up with a 2nd spline between the 2 planes and the original closed loop spline still intact.

Might be time to call GTAC.
